This is a blog documenting my surgery and rehabilitation from a SLAP tear suffered in my left shoulder. The surgery took place on Thursday December 16th 2010 and the physical therapy appointments are expected to last 3-6 months and then another 6-9 months of home physical therapy. Total time from surgery to full recovery is about 1 year.

FINAL UPDATE
So I just came across my blog and realized I never finished it off. So for those of you interested, the rest of the recovery went great and I was done by mid-April of 2011. Everything went great and I was 100% fully recovered less than 1 year after the surgery. Now almost 2 years later I am totally pain free and the shoulder is feeling great. So I hope this blog has been / will be helpful for anyone who is planning on having this surgery.
Hello
ReplyDeleteI found the blog very helpful to set realistic expcetations. I have tear and my surgeron said I could go to work after surger in ~ 1 week. HELLO !? I have decided that my injury is not severe enough to warrant this surgery and long recovery. Sure I can't do yoga or some things any more, but I think I can live with it. Thanks very much !
Super helpful! Just came across today. Had surgery last Friday and healing is so far pretty good. Totally off of all pain meds which is awesome, but no PT yet, so I know I'm not out of the woods. I appreciate all of the detail and info. Granted I skimmed a lot fo the exercises because looking at some of the pictures make we want to cringe. I remember how much some of them hurt before surgery, makes me quiver to think how bad it would be now. What I appreciate the most is the discussion on how you decided to go forth with the surgery. My wife and I work full time and have a 16 month old. Knowing the stress that is on her while I am almost totally immobile is hard to take., But to know that i a few short months I wont have anything to wrry about with my son and wrestling, throwing, etc, is wort it all. May not say that mid PT, but I'm going for it now. Thaks again for this blog, super helpful!
